Dr. Muhammad Afham Shahid

Dr. Muhammad Afham Shahid is one of the best Oncologist in Lahore. He has graduated from King Edward Medical University. He has learned the art of Oncology from Mayo Hospital Lahore, the Mecca & hub of Oncology since 1940, when foundation of Radium Institute was laid. After his medical graduation from King Edward Medical University (KEMU), he has done Fellowship in Oncology from College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan and he also holds MRCP.SCE in field of Medical Oncology, Royal college of Physicians (UK). He has 8 years of Medical Experience with vast exposure of National and International Platforms.
He is currently working as Consultant Oncologist in Surgimed Hospital (Oncology Center) and Mayo Hospital Lahore.

Experience

After graduating from the prestigious King Edward Medical University – KEMU, Dr Afham had internship in Medicine, Paediatrics, Surgery and Orthopaedics. He then chose to Pursue Oncology and sought the Mentorship of Dr Tariq Waseem, the wizard of Internal Medicine & Dr Muhammad Abbas Khokhar. His experience includes working with VC and Dean Professor Ejaz Hussain of Dermatology, Principal and Dean of gastroenterology Professor Ghias-un-Nabi Tayyab in LGH, Head of PIC and Dean of Cardiology Professor Saqib Shafi and President SMOP and Chairman Medical Oncology Professor Zeba Aziz. With the magnanimous help of his Oncology Supervisor, he played vital role in launch of Precision Medical Clinic of Mayo Hospital Lahore (PMC-MHL) in 2017 which is the first ever Targeted Clinic of Pakistan.
He also gained experience of Clinical plus Lab Hematology from King Edward Medical University under mentorship of Prof Ambareen Hamid, who is renowned Dean and Professor of Pathology LGH. Inspired by the vision of Professor Shaharyar, the famous Clinical Oncologist of Cancer-Care Hospital, Raiwind Lahore, Dr Afham chose to tune-up his experiences in Radiation Oncology from Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Center (SKMCH&RC) with Dr Tabinda Sadaf of Clinical & Radiation Oncology. Dr Afham also enjoyed the mentorship of Prof Faisal Sultan in the Department of Infectious Diseases in Shaukat Khanum Hospital. His exposure with Dr Haleema Saeed of Paediatric Oncology strenghtened his experience in the ever-evolving field of Oncology.
He also owns the credit of CML clinic inauguration of Mayo Hospital in 2017 with the help of his Mentor Dr Abbas Khokhar. His experience of CML clinic Jinnah Hospital and collaboration with iCMLf have served the victims of CML for years. Dr Afham performed his preceptorship in MD Anderson Cancer Center MDACC in 2018 and learned from expertise of Professor Jorge Cortez of Houston, who played vital role in launch and approval of 3rd generation TKIs for CML, namely Ponatinib and Asciminib, and is renowned wizard of CML Hematology. Later Dr Afham also imparted in 2018 ASH conference, San Diego California.
He also holds Membership of Royal College of Physicians London MRCP.SCE (UK) apart from his Fellowship in Oncology – FCPS from CPSP.
